Abstract

Summary

In this article the authors demonstrate the initial results of experimental work done with the help of ocean bottom nodes and an electric spark source, to assess the feasibility of the technology for the study of gas-saturated sediments. The results showed that this approach is promising. In the case of gas-saturated sediments spread widely through the investigated area, an air gun (1–2 litres) is recommended. In this case, it would be necessary to work out the optimal technique and technology for production surveys, data processing and interpretation. Further experimental work in the use of a small volume air gun and the development of new production methods is recommended.
