Abstract

Summary

High-resolution acoustic borehole imaging is now available for LWD (logging while-drilling) operations where, previously, this was only available for wireline acquisition. As a stand-alone service, this opens up possibilities for high-resolution caliper visualisation of borehole shape, fracture characterisation in OBM (oil-based mud) and other geological interpretation. We show new applications from the stand-alone service and in combination with existing high-resolution electrical imaging LWD service, which is especially important for full fracture characterisation in water-based mud (WBM). Additionally, we explore further interpretation applications based on the different measurement physics from combined tool runs that are used to look for changes in rock properties and mineralogy.
