Abstract

Summary

As the traditional fluid factors, the ratio of P-wave and S-wave velocity (Vp/Vs), lambda-rho (λρ), Poisson impedance (PI) and other seismic elastic parameters are widely used for fluid discrimination. However, previous study and practical application show that the fluid sensitivities of these factors are different, they are all affected by reservoir porosity greatly, which may bring great risk for fluid detection. In this paper, we introduce a new method to construct sensitive fluid factor through rotating the cross-plot of acoustic impedance (AI) and gradient impedance (GI). What’s more, based on fluid substitution, the effects of oil saturation variation and porosity variation on the parameters corresponding to different rotation angles of AI-GI cross-plot are compared quantitatively. The parameter is chosen as the final fluid factor, which is insensitive to porosity variation but sensitive to fluid variation. This method is applied to the real data in Bohai oilfield, and the application shows that this method can minimize the impact of porosity variations, highlight the response of hydrocarbon fluid, which can reduce the risk of hydrocarbon detection effectively, has a industrial application value.
