Abstract

Summary

Finite difference (FD) plays an important role in seismic modelling. In this paper, we propose a new FD scheme that is implicit in space and high-order accurate in time. The optimization method is used to determine the implicit spatial FD coefficients and the high-order temporal accuracy is achieved by using a combination of the rhombus stencil and conventional second-order FD. We utilize the dispersion analysis and the modelling examples to verify the effectiveness of our proposed scheme. They evidently demonstrate that, the combined version of LS-based implicit spatial and high-order temporal schemes controls the spatial and temporal dispersion synchronously and effectively, and generates more accurate wavefields than the other two conventional schemes. Our scheme also can be directly extended to the 3D case in a future study.
