Abstract

Summary

Future exploration success in Campeche deepwater will depend on the ability to predict reservoir parameters, estimate potential hydrocarbon volume and phase for each play segment. This study addresses key prospectivity elements, identifying high-potential prospects and geological risks. The initial approach to those challenges may rely on US GOM experience, but as we start to decipher the rich structural and stratigraphic complexity of Salina del Istmo basin, more evidence continues to emerge of substantially different exploration concepts and opportunities. A holistic, multidisciplinary approach to the prospectivity assessment of the deep water region in the Mexican part of Gulf of Mexico (Bay of Campeche) has been realized within the Schlumberger Exploration Services group for the last two years, integrating vast libraries of newly acquired and reprocessed legacy seismic data with modern high-resolution gravity-magnetic survey and well data from more than 70 wells.
