Abstract
There are huge differences in the recoverable reserves between the Eastern and Western Deep-water Fan in Miocene of Niger Delta Basin. 14 oil and gas fields have been discoveried with a total of 7.1 billion BOE in the former one, however 7 oil and gas fields with totally 3.5 billion BOE in the latter one. Therefore, it is of important exploration significance and academic value to research on the deep-water sedimentary reservoirs. Based on the comprehensive analysis of 2D (32,000 km) seismic lines, 3D (45,000 km2) seismic data as wells as 79 wells and 8 cores, it shows that the main reason for the differences in oil and gas distribution in Western and Eastern deep-water areas rely on the existence of the canyons, which can as a transport corridor for deep-water fans. So, the sedimentary differences in the Western and Eastern Fan resulted in two types of trap types, which ultimately leading to huge differences in oil and gas field distribution.
