Abstract

Summary

Viscoelastic is the inherent characteristic of rock, thus attenuating amplitude and distorting the phase of a wavelet. In reservoir geophysics inversion, it is more difficult to estimate Q value accurately than velocity in the formation. Many field data shows that Q value has a tendency toward enlargement with velocity increasing, and some scholar summed up empirical formula for Q value and velocity. However, there is a lack of research on the difference rock types, which can guide Q estimation and lithology identification in filed. In this study, we collect different material and rock samples to research the relationship between velocity and Q factor. It is found that logarithmic Q value and velocity has a linear relationship, the larger density change rate samples has greater slope. Our study on the empirical formula is advantageous to the application of attenuation at lithology analysis and fluid identification.
