Abstract

Summary

In this research study we examine the extent to which borehole images can be used to deduce statistical distributions of natural fracture size and shape. These distributions describe semi-major axis length of elliptical shape fractures, rotation angle, along with elongation ratio. We extend the existing work on this topic with new stereological relations that characterize elliptical fracture from borehole images, and evaluate the uncertainty associated with each estimated parameters.
