Abstract

Summary

The Ivar Aasen Field is located on the Gudrun Terrace, between the Utsira High and the Southern Viking Graben in the North Sea. The Field is comprised of Triassic to Middle Jurassic reservoirs, deposited on the down-faulted part of the neighbouring Utsira High. Five geo-pilots were drilled in the early development phase to mitigate remaining key uncertainties of the field. The results of the geo-pilots proved that the Sleipner and Hugin formations were not as extensive and laterally continuous as first expected, and that the reservoir quality of the Triassic Skagerrak sandstones was better than initially assumed. The Skagerrak 2 Formation holds now most of the volume in place, and is considered critical for the field water injection strategy. The Ivar Aasen PDO drilling campaign was completed in September 2017 with 6 water injectors and 6 horizontal producers ( Fig. 5 ), in addition to 1 horizontal producer on the nearby West Cable discovery.
