Abstract

Summary

To effectively determine the stability and leakage path of the hydraulic facilities, modified electrical resistivity surveys were applied to the rock fill embankment located in South Korea. Also, dipole-dipole array data was also acquired to compare all results. As the results of modified electrical resistivity tomography, all the data demonstrate that there are two major leak zone in the embankment. One is an anomaly found in the vicinity of drain pipe and was predicted as an anomaly caused by the junction of the drain pipe boundary, the other is a path from the center to the right of the embankment. This anomaly was predicted as the cause of the ongoing leaks. As a result of comparing the newly proposed exploration results with the dipole-dipole array inversion, while the dipole-dipole array results distorted the internal state of the embankment, the new array results correctly interpreted the body’s leaking location. In addition, the results of these surveys could predict the extent and path of leaks that could not be obtained from dipole-dipole array results. In particular, 3-D inversion of tomography was able to predict the leakage of the hydraulic facility more accurately and intuitively.
