Abstract
This paper presents a case study of the application of the combined methodology (MASW+HVSR) as the main test used for an additional site characterization campaign in the Northern Lisbon Logistic Park (PLLN), located in Castanheira do Ribatejo (Vila Franca de Xira) ( Figure 1 ). The 65 ha area studied is divided in several plots, intended for industrial warehouses and is located in a flood plain, in Tagus River’s alluvial deposits with maximum thicknesses of around 20 m.
The chosen methodology proved to be the most adequate for the study, as it allowed to characterize the whole area in a very short period of time available to do the work (less than 4 weeks from acquisition to interpretation). It also allowed to clearly identify the resistance and stiffness contrast of the geotechnical materials in the several geological units to define isoline maps for the elevations of the alluvium layer and the substratum, as well as to establish the geotechnical parameters of the soft layer.
The obtained results were decisive in the comparative study of several foundation solutions for the industrial warehouses and respective accesses to be constructed in the PLLN area.
