Abstract

Formation water composition in frontier exploration areas can provide constraints on the movement of fluids in sedimentary basins. In this paper, the sources and mixing processes of low salinity formation water in marine sandstone reservoirs is discussed using two case studies. Chemical and isotopic data are used as natural tracers to help determine the source of low salinity formation water and how it mixes in potential reservoir sandstones.
