Abstract
The southern Gulf of Mexico has been the area with the biggest exploration and development growth in recent years. To have a better understanding of the shallow Mexican waters supporting an intense drilling campaign, a 3940-km2 ocean-bottom seismic project was performed. In this case study we describe the motivations behind a full azimuth long offset acquisition, the use of simultaneous source shooting to have the data acquired within the needed timeframe, a robust simultaneous source separation for the 4 components, the use of ultra-long offsets for FWI and tailored signal processing and model building strategies to obtain inversion ready data for the shallow Tertiary target, a clearer, well defined Mesozoic image that allows to better map the regional geology, locate new targets and refine previous ones.
