Abstract
While conventional exploration and development has been unable to meet the demand in recent years, the significant potential of unconventional oil and gas resources has been recognized. Technologies like horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing are needed to improve production of unconventional reservoirs. Brittleness is closely related to reservoir fracturing, and the study of reservoir brittleness distribution is of great significance for later oil and gas development. In this paper, we consider comprehensively the porosity, mineral component, and microstructure to establish a rock physics model for brittleness by combining the DEM and SCA effective medium theories. The seismic properties of rock are influenced by the porosity, mineral components, fracture content and its aspect ratio. As the feldspar content increases, the brittleness of rock decreases. The P-wave impedance is high, the ratio of P-wave to S-wave is low which correspond to high brittleness of rock.
