Abstract
Summary
Since the start of 4D acquisition in the mid-90s, the time-lapse technology pushed geophysicists to 4D seismic data of very different quality. The 4D signal is a combination of 4D noise and reservoir production effects and results are not always straightforward to interpret. Thus, a good understanding of the 4D noise helps to provide a reliability attribute allowing better 4D evaluation to interpreters and reservoir engineers. A precise noise description is presented with the creation of a “confidence” parameter. It allows to rank seismic 4D signatures, to provide 4D seismic uncertainty evaluation and to discriminate 4D signal from 4D noise. The methodology was applied to various 4D signal and noise cases.
