Abstract

Summary

An original technique based on the use of the deformation and acoustic properties of a full-sized core in combination with paleomagnetic studies, which allows to determine the direction of the “main stress” in the sedimentary layer, is considered. Examples of the application of the optical-polarization and tectonosedimentation methods for predicting areas of tectonogenic fracturing and decompaction are given. The results obtained using these methods can be used in planning horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing of productive strata.
