Abstract

Summary

A 3D surface-to-borehole CSEM survey was acquired in a research well located in a producing oil field to monitor the movement of the waterfront. Variations in the data acquired in the initial baseline survey showed excellent spatial correlation with resistivity variations predicted through reservoir simulation. A 3D finite difference model of the anisotropic overburden and wellbore casing is used to invert for the resistivity of the reservoir surrounding the well. Comparison to borehole observations suggest the CSEM survey robustly recovers the reservoir resistivity distribution within 1.5 km of the well.
