Abstract

Summary

Restart files are simulator’s internal files that are a binary representation of the reservoir state at a chosen time and can be used by the simulator’s end users to resume the simulation from an arbitrary point in time. The size of restart files could reach hundreds of gigabytes and require high storage capacity. In this paper, the lossless compression of an in-house reservoir simulator’s internal restart files is explored and its advantages are shared.
