Abstract

Summary

On a base of the updated version of GEBCO bathymetric data (2020) for the Mississippi Delta and the Azov-Black Sea basin, cartographic schemes of the bottom tilt angles were constructed. Based on the results of landslide threats studies in the World Ocean, a significant risk has been established for the functioning of oil and gas platforms and subsea pipelines even at small bottom angles of 0.5–1°, especially high in areas of low consolidation of bottom sediments. It is recommended to conduct landslide hazard studies in the offshore areas of other Russian seas with first priority of the Arctic shelf, where the existence of submarine permafrost zone and gas hydrates increases the risk of landslide processes.
