Abstract

Summary

Nearfield exploration in mature basins requires fast and efficient delineation of potential reservoir sand bodies and seals preferably at high vertical and lateral resolution. We present an integrated approach using a regional subsurface model based on the integrated sequence stratigraphic interpretation of well logs and seismic to provide regional horizons and gross depositional environment maps. The latter are refined through geobody identification and extraction from colour processed 3D seismic data, that are calibrated with lithology logs. The result is a portfolio of age dated lithology-calibrated sand reservoir bodies at vertical and lateral resolution of the seismic data that can be entered into a risking process for ranking. The same method may also be used to identify potential sites for carbon capture and storage.
