Abstract

Summary

Drilling cuttings become meaningful source of geological data, over the last few years. Application of portable XRF devices at the rig site, secures acquisition of substantial real time data which enhance while drilling interpretations conducted by operations and exploration geologists, petrophysicists, geophysicists and drilling engineers. Considering the benefits of the methodology, geochemical logging while drilling (GLWD) survey has been implemented on the exploratory well drilled in tectonically complicated geological setting of Outer Carpathians. In the result of real time geochemical logging of drilling cuttings integrated chemo- and lithostratigraphic control of drilled well (Well – X) has been achieved. Colour analysis accompanied by mineralogical and lithological modeling provided comprehensive geological information regarding the drilled section. Applied mineralogical algorithm delivered a set of synthetic equivalents of GR, RHOMA and DTMA which enabled to establish good correlation with wireline logs and delivered relative brittleness index (RBI) data and synthetic seismogram.
