Abstract

Summary

Parkwind is an offshore wind developer based in Belgium, focusing on the development, construction, and operation of offshore wind farms (OWF). As part of the global growth of Parkwind, Arcadis Ost 1 (AO1) offshore wind project marks their fifth project being constructed. Situated in the Baltic Sea in Germany, the Arcadis Ost 1 seabed is composed of soft sediments, such as clay, silt, and sand, as well as glacial tills and chalk formations. These soils pose challenges for foundation and cable design, as they require tailor made solutions to provide stability and support for wind turbine structures. This case study provides an overview of the soil conditions at the AO1 OWF and how soil challenges were overcome by applying innovative solutions.
