Abstract
Geologic processes in the Black Sea can cause hazardous events that threaten lives and infrastructure. The assessment of marine natural hazards and risks specific to the Black Sea basin is among the main tasks in the decision-making and policy development in the field of preventing geohazards. It is a complex process that enables to identify, understand and quantify geohazards, their scale and consequences. The functioning of marine natural and man-made systems is directly dependent on geological conditions and requires the development of special methods of their safe operation. When assessing the impact of the geological environment and geohazards on pipeline systems, it is necessary to take into account those loads and impacts that disrupt the stability of the system “geological environment - pipeline”. They fundamentally depend on the position of the pipeline on the seabed and are determined by elastic-plastic deformations of the soil and hydrodynamic forces. Proposed calculations of these effects are subject to the theory of stability of closed circular cylindrical shells under the action of external pressure and bending. The formation of monitoring services and systems is necessary in order to reduce the offshore geohazards and to strengthen the capacity for effective resource management of natural and man-made marine and coastal systems.
