Abstract

Summary

Field geographic research is traditionally conducted using field observations by application of field forms. The problem of field research before the emergence of integrated mobile GIS solutions is not always correct recording and exchange of data for further processing of geodata during field indication and field observations. This paper aims to highlight the experience of using the capabilities of the QField mobile GIS software in field practices at the Faculty of Geography as an affordable and convenient tool for capturing, collecting, primary processing, and storing geodata in the field.

QField mobile GIS is a comprehensive solution that integrates seamlessly with QGIS and allows you to visualization the current situation both online and offline, work with spreadsheets and data of various formats, update and editing of data, GPS support, and search for objects, coordinate and locations, location tracking, integration with mobile device cameras, updating the field survey database with objects and related data and convenient “import” of modified field data and the ability to save it to QFieldCloud. The use of QField optimizes the process of obtaining geodata in the field, significantly improves the quality and reliability, and simplifies further processing.

Today’s market offers a wide range of mobile GIS and geodata collectors, but for field practice tasks, QField mobile GIS is the most appropriate solution in terms of academic integrity and correct research work with geodata.
