Abstract

Summary

The article examines the results of monitoring studies on the Alta River and the Trubizh River within the city of Pereyaslav, Boryspil District, Kyiv Region, with the aim of assessing the condition of their riverbeds and water quality; identifying the causes and culprits of pollution and other ecological and economic problems; substantiating directions, measures and mechanisms for their resolution and ensuring rational water use and sustainable development in the future. The macrophyte composition of the flora in the experimental areas was analyzed, and the trophicity of the studied water bodies was determined. It has been established that significant organic pollution, acidification, eutrophication, and the presence of heavy metals are recorded in all studied sections of the Alta and Trubizh rivers. Indicators of the physical and chemical composition of the water, bacteriological, and the content of heavy metals made it possible to assign it to pollution classes III and IV, but the riverbed of the Alta River is generally on the verge of extinction. Therefore in order to solve acute ecological and economic problems and protect these important historical small rivers of Ukraine, we have proposed to carry out immediate work on cleaning the river channels at the expense of the budgets of territorial communities, environmental protection nongovernmental organizations, and voluntary donations of individuals and legal entities.
