Abstract

Summary

Currently, Ukraine faces the need of reforming the state environmental monitoring system, taking into account international experience and the requirements of European Union’ relevant directives. Achieving the specified goal requires the mandatory implementation of monitoring programs focused on the quantitative and qualitative state of groundwater. However, the perrennial meager funding of this area in Ukraine has created a number of problems that become obstacles on the way of harmonization of existing native monitoring approaches with the requirements of EU guidelines. On the basis of provided analysis of the current monitoring system’s state in Ukraine there were specified key problematic points that require urgent attention and it was suggested a number of solutions that could contribute to improving the situation.
