Abstract

Summary

The results of the study of the local vertical dynamics of the upper soil layer at the geodynamic polygon of the Poltava Gravimetric Observatory in 2014–2022 are presented. A compatible analysis of the vertical movements of benchmarks, which are installed at depths from 0.3 m to 3.0 m and fluctuations in the groundwater level, was performed. A correlation between slow vertical movements at different depths and variations in the groundwater level was revealed. With depth, the amplitude of annual vertical movements decreases exponentially. At a depth of 3 m, it does not exceed 0.2 mm. Moments of maximum soil elevations with depth are delayed according to a linear relationship. Seasonal fluctuations of the soil in different years can differ by more than two times for the same depths. No correlation was found between periodic seasonal soil movements and annual fluctuations in the groundwater level. Local vertical movements of the upper layer of the soil must be taken into account in the high-precision study of land motions.
