Abstract

Summary

As a result of the hostilities, the water supply and drainage facilities are destroyed, which leads to sewage entering the reservoirs without any treatment. This is dangerous because of the spread of infectious diseases among the population that consumes this water and the blooming of the water, which eventually leads to the extinction of fish and the overgrowth of water bodies. A mathematical model of phytoplankton monitoring and retention by polystyrene foam from an aqueous suspension owing to the phenomenon of electrostatic adsorption was developed. Its adequacy was verified by experimental studies of the ζpotential of the adsorbent and adsorbate. The factors affecting the time and intensity of the process of water purification from algae due to the process of filtration through granular media have been studied and analyzed. The effectiveness of polystyrene foam at different stages of the process of filtering an aqueous suspension containing cyanobacteria was investigated. The dependence of the intensity of the retention of colloids of biological origin by polystyrene foam filter media granules on the value of their ζ-potential was determined.
