Abstract
Given the potential danger posed by the rapid level of urbanization to the population of modern megacities, it is important to conduct a continuous assessment and analysis of human activity. The results of this study demonstrate that the use of geographic information systems and remote sensing data in the management of urbanization processes and the prompt detection of land development is appropriate.
By constructing maps of the distribution of the normalized index of accumulated difference, the areas of urban development in Kyiv at different time intervals were analyzed in detail, and a statistical analysis of the areas was carried out. The assumption of rapid urbanization over the past 18 years was confirmed.
The result was an understanding of the feasibility of using a new approach to urban planning and urbanization management in order to maintain acceptable environmental parameters for human life.
