Abstract

Summary

The potential of the ecosystems is a pillar and a guiding framework of environmental research to pay attention to the health and vitality of the ecosystems in the context of key concepts and paradigms in aiming to achieve a balance between resource usage and responsibility of the variety of economic sectors to future generations, including tourist and recreational. That is why this study was designed to explore the potential of the ecosystems and general current military-disrupted changes as the main sources to increase and sustain tourist and recreational destination attractiveness by GIS facilities within the case study area of the Kyivska region of Ukraine. Exploration of an environmental pillar as well as the socio-cultural aspects of sustainable development was associated with data collection and spatial analysis, indicator development, environmental impact assessment, carrying capacity analysis, an assessment of the destination’s tourist and recreational rates, identification of «hotspot» areas by employing the combination of geospatial technologies. The built cartographic models are used for identifying factors as a source of data for spatial planning implementation, stakeholder engagement, and adaptive management enhancement.
