Abstract
To increase the efficiency of predicting potentially diamondiferous rocks on the territory of the Ukrainian Shield, the identified subalkaline ultramafic rocks were systematized according to genetic criteria, body morphology, depth characteristics, and age by tectonic position. It was found that not all forecasting criteria used by geologists are suitable for the Ukrainian Shield. A modern understanding of the possible mechanisms and conditions for the formation of diamondiferous rocks and the crystallization of diamonds in them is required. It is also necessary to develop a new, justified methodology for searching for this type of raw material with lithofacies analysis of the basal horizons of the sedimentary cover for each age weathering cycle and sedimentation for each tectonic block. It has been established that for the deeply eroded Ukrainian Shield, Early Proterozoic ultramafic magmatism can be represented only by the root sections of supply channels in the form of small pipes and dikes (not necessarily diamondiferous). Classic kimberlite bodies gravitate toward shield slopes, where they can be predicted using classical criteria. The discovery of diamondiferous rocks of metamorphogenic genesis (also eclogite) is possible in zones of interblock collisions.
