Abstract

Summary

This publication describes the main factors influencing the indicators of solid material removal by the river systems of the Northern Black Sea and the calculation of its mass using correlation analysis.

The main factors are: catchment area, volume of water carried away per unit time and flow rate, river slope, composition and conditions of occurrence of land rocks drained by the river system, artificial structures on the watercourse routes. The peculiarities of suspended sediment and bottom material removal by the Danube, Dniester, Southern Bug, and Dnipro rivers are considered.

According to our calculations, the annual volumes of suspended and bottom sediment in the rivers entering the Dniester and Dnipro-Bug estuaries of the Black Sea are as follows (million tons): Dniester: suspended - 1.116, bottom - 0.04; Southern Bug: suspended - 0.19, bottom -0.007788; Dnipro: suspended - 0.77, bottom - 0.028. The calculated annual volumes for the Danube Delta are as follows (million tons): suspended - 11.732, bottom - 0.411. The majority of the annual solid runoff from the land is deposited in estuaries and about 10% enters the water area directly, which totals (million tons): suspended 11.9398, bottom 0.4184.
