Abstract

Summary

The paper focus on using satellite imagery and GIS, allow to trace and analyze changes in the state of the Kakhovka Reservoir that occurred before and after the destruction of the hydroelectric power station. The undermining of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, which was caused by the russian invaders, changed not only the ecology of the southern part of Ukraine, the cartography, but also had significant consequences for the functioning and economy of many industries. This work is devoted to the study of changes in the Kakhovka Reservoir according to remote sensing data during the period of full-scale invasion from October 2022 to September 2023. The paper examines dynamics of changes in the Kakhovka Reservoir as results Russian invasion. The paper determined as of September 2023, the water surface area of the reservoir is 1.63 square km, which is 0.079% of the total reservoir area, and the dewatered surface area has changed from 0.23% to 83.28%. 5.36% of the reservoir area remains partially flooded/wet.
