Abstract

Summary

Magnetic susceptibility of petroleum fluids — crude oil, refined oil fractions and formation waters from several world fields as well as organic oils are reported. The magnetic susceptibility of petroleum fluids is characterized by the analysis of publications, magnetic susceptibility of edible oils is obtained by experimental studies. According to the types of oil, the mass magnetic susceptibility is as follows: for heavy oils values are from −0,9592 to −0,9952*10−8 m3/kg, for black low shrinkage oils: from −1,0072 to −1,0312*10−8 m3/kg, for volatile high shrinkage oils - from −1,0312 to −1,0552*0−8 m3/kg. That is, the light fractions of crude oil consisting mainly of paraffinic and naphthenic hydrocarbons are the most diamagnetic. Volume magnetic susceptibility was determined by MFK1-B kappabridge on the basis of the laboratory of the study of the magnetic properties of substances (S.I. Subbotin Institute of Geophysics of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine). Experimental studies of the magnetic susceptibility of various types of edible oils, including magnetized samples, were conducted. The results confirmed diamagnetic properties of oils. Samples are characterized by negative values of χ, range is from −139,6*10−8 SI (cannabis) to −369,2*10−8 SI (black cumin). Some samples have positive values of magnetic susceptibility. Correlational dependences between the magnetic susceptibility of oils, including magnetized ones, and the content of different types of acids in their composition have been revealed. The obtained regularities should be applied in the quality control process of edible oils in industrial production.
