Abstract
Seismicity poses a potential threat to critical infrastructure such as nuclear plants, power plants, bridges and other critical structures. Unfortunately, the territory of Ukraine is constantly affected by subcortical earthquakes from the seismogenic zone of Vrancha, located under the mountains of the same name in the territory of Romania. In addition, foci of weak local earthquakes, the cause of which is the geodynamic activity of local tectonic structures, constantly appear on the territory of the country. Reducing the seismic risk to a safe level can only be achieved through the design of earthquake-resistant buildings and structures, using scientifically based knowledge about the quantitative parameters of the seismic hazard. The seismic protection strategy provides for the introduction of earthquake-resistant design and construction of housing and potentially dangerous objects based on objective knowledge about the quantitative parameters of the actual seismic hazard at specific construction sites.
