Abstract

Summary

The main aim of the study is to investigate debris materials of the lateral and terminal moraines of the Drang Drung glacier. The lateral and terminal moraines of the glacier were subjected to 2-D ERT employing Dipole-Dipole, Wenner and Wenner-Schlumberger configurations with inter-station separation of 5 m. The 2-D inversion modelling of the Dipole-Dipole, Wenner and Wenner- Schlumberger data was analysed using RES2DINV Software. The ERT data showed diverse subsurface geologic formations having debris, frozen sediments and ground ice that had been explored to a depth of at least 36 meters. The RMS values of all the profiles fall within the acceptable range and there is no need for any additional tunning. The identified subsurface lithology comprises granites, migmatites, basalts, and metasedimentary rocks inter mixed with glacial ice. This thorough examination enables the recognition of underlying features like glacial ice and sediment layers, facilitates comprehension of the active layer’s dynamics, and helps unveil the debris ice thickness within the glacier. The ERT study carried out in the Drang Drung glacier indicates the variability of debris thickness of ice & rocks of the lateral moraine and terminal moraines
