Abstract
The paper presents the results of research in the field of fiber-optic instrumentation in two areas: fiber-optic towed seismic streamers and coherent optical reflectometers for long-haul fiber-optic communication lines. The interferometric approach was used in both tools to achieve high accuracy and sensitivity of measurements.
The fiber-optic towed seismic streamer demonstrated a very good acoustic performance with a sensitivity of about -120 dB re rad/μPa in the frequency range up to 500 Hz during its sea trials. The paper also presents the supporting techniques which allow achieving presented results in harsh environmental conditions.
The COTDR reflectometer demonstrated a single-way dynamic range (SWDR) of about 40 dB with a maximum fiber line length of about 200 km. The paper presents the description of interferometric techniques that made it possible to obtain this result.
