Abstract

Summary

In the last decade, the electromagnetic method has emerged as a pivotal branch of geophysical exploration. This method has witnessed rapid progress, encompassing airborne electromagnetic, semi-airborne electromagnetic, ground-based electromagnetic, and marine electromagnetic techniques. Chinese researchers have notably enhanced the fundamental theory, instruments, forward modeling, and inversion processes across a range of electromagnetic detection methods.

This abstract provides a comprehensive overview of the significant developments and applications of electromagnetic methods in China, with a particular focus on near-surface applications. The methods discussed can be broadly categorized into two types: the evolution of new ground-based electromagnetic methods and advancements in marine, airborne, semi-airborne, and tunnel electromagnetic methods.

In the realm of ground-based electromagnetic methods, the abstract delves into several key innovations. These include the Wide Area Electromagnetic Method, Wireless Electromagnetic Method (WEM), Time-Frequency Electromagnetic Method (TFEM), and Short-Offset Grounded-Wire Transient Electromagnetic Method. Each of these methods is explored, highlighting their unique contributions and applications. Shifting the focus to marine, airborne, semi-airborne, and tunnel electromagnetic methods, the discussion encompasses recent theoretical developments, cutting-edge instruments, and practical applications within China. This segment provides insights into the latest advancements in theory and technology.
