The Otway Shallow Fault Project aims to understand CO2-fault interaction through field demonstration, injecting CO2 into an underground aquifer at the Otway International Test Centre. Subsurface studies informed project design, including geomechanical and thermodynamic characterizations, crucial for modeling and operational parameters evaluation. Stress regime analysis validated results obtained from geomechanical study of deeper layers, though uncertainties exist in applying assumptions to near-surface carbonates. The specific calibration of solubility model shows that solubility trapping emerged as the main CO2 storage mechanism, impacting plume dynamics and experimental constraints. A dynamic numerical model forecasted plume evolution and interaction with geological features. Simulations indicate successful CO2 migration along the fault, with a monitoring plan in place for data collection. Field data analysis will refine modelling for future carbon capture and storage projects at commercial scale.
