Abstract

Summary

Subsurface resources operations are critically dependent on the behaviour of the well through its lifetime. While the production and injection stages are commonly monitored both at surface and downhole, there are limited downhole options to monitor completion installation. Keeping in mind that well cementing operations are critical for providing zonal isolation over the life of a well, been able to monitor the operation downhole and over a large depth interval for long timeframe, would enable to better understand the processes and possible identify events at an early stage. One option is to install a permanent fibre optic cable which enables surface to reservoir permanent surveillance. It has been extensively observed that the cement hydration process is exothermic, hence generating heat and disturbing the temperature in the near wellbore region.

In this work, we discuss the added benefit of monitoring the cement hydration process using both distributed temperature and strain sensing for a deviated well intersecting a fault system.
