Abstract

Summary

The exploration of the Langkasuka Basin, positioned between Sumatra and Malaysia, showcases the effectiveness of combining Full Tensor Gravimetry (FTG) data with seismic lines to unveil the basin’s complex geology. This integrated approach is key to identifying deep graben features, which are suggested by gravity anomalies and confirmed by seismic data. The detection of Paleozoic grabens through this method opens new potential hydrocarbon plays that were previously unrecognized.

FTG data has been extensively used as depth slices and residual maps to infer the presence of deeper grabens in the study area. The FTG and seismic data together provide a robust framework for interpreting the subsurface, enabling us to interpret a series of deeper reflectors in the basin, potentially representing the Paleozoic grabens. These findings, supported by stratigraphic information from outcrops and wells, suggest new exploration targets within the Paleozoic layers.

Further data acquisition and advanced analysis techniques are anticipated to refine our understanding of the basin’s structure and stratigraphy, spotlighting the Langkasuka Basin’s potential for future exploration endeavours.
