Safeguarding Value of Thin Oil Rim Brownfield through Integrated Time-Lapse Surveillance and Reservoir Simulation Updates

Managing thin oil rim reservoir with extensive years of production pose as a great challenge due the dynamic movement of fluid contacts that is sensitive to reservoir pressure, depletion and production strategy. In this case study, a brownfield in offshore Sarawak was observed to attain uneven current fluid contacts after more than 40 years of production. Prudent efforts integrating time-lapse surveillance plan and reservoir simulation model updates were successfully executed to de-risk the tilted fluid contacts in recent drilling campaign involving 4 horizontal wells. The positive result encountered is testament to the robustness of the integrated reservoir model and opening further development opportunities as well as better management of the thin oil rim reservoir.
