Abstract

Summary

Deepwater Sabah province is situated approximately 200 km north of the present-day Sabah coastline and is considered as a frontier area ( Figure-1 ). Compared to the petroliferous siliciclastic play within the region, the carbonate play exploration is underexplored. So far limited to only in-situ carbonate build-up which has successfully discovered significant hydrocarbon. However, another type of carbonate, allochthonous carbonate, has not been fully explored and looked at. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the potential of allochthonous carbonate play in Sabah deepwater area, together with its risks by calibrating the current conceptualized carbonate model with the latest available datasets and lessons learned from recent exploration wells.
