Abstract

Summary

The Balingian Province, situated off the coast of Sarawak, has been actively explored since the 1920s, boasting over 27,000 sqkm of prolific basin territory with relatively shallow water depths. Despite its rich history, much of its potential remained untapped due to perceived limitations in exploration methods and imaging capabilities. However, recent efforts led by PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) have challenged these preconceptions, leading to the discovery of new plays and prospects previously overlooked. Through a multi-disciplinary approach integrating innovative technologies and exploration strategies, PCSB has revitalized interest in the basin, uncovering promising opportunities for future endeavors. This paper explores the journey of rejuvenating the Balingian basin, highlighting the collaborative efforts and advancements that have reshaped perceptions and unlocked its untapped potential.
