Abstract

Summary

The Langkasuka Basin, spanning an expansive area beneath Selat Melaka, holds untapped petroleum potential within its Pre-Tertiary sedimentary formations. Despite being overlooked in previous exploration, an integrated approach is now underway, combining surface geological mapping, geophysical analysis, and sub-surface sampling. By leveraging Paleozoic analogues from NW Peninsular Malaysia, this study aims to uncover the basin’s hidden petroleum resources. Initial findings reveal promising prospects, with geochemical and petrographic analyses shedding light on source rock quality and reservoir characteristics. As exploration progresses, the Langkasuka Basin emerges as a promising frontier for future petroleum endeavors.
