Abstract

Summary

Geological complexities of fractured reservoirs in the Malay Basin remain as a challenge. Therefore, in this study, three groups of fractures which include rock properties and tectonics were incorporated. Stress regime analysis is not sufficient to address geological complexity. The main objective of this study is to perform strain analysis on the first group and second group of fracture in seismic scale. In Field A, tectonic fault system scale–bounded at low strain based on a constant value of 1.06 was determined in the second fracture group. The fault populations displayed power law distribution over three orders of magnitude. It defines tectonic influenced (scale invariance) in the wrench dominated transtension. The relay ramp system (tectonic influenced) area in the fault 3/5 and fault 8/10 were observed, it might suggest possible hydrocarbon fluid flow. The main fault of Field A was oriented 090–096 and 137. The orientation of 137 occurred in the interval of top of the basement with αcrit was determined 9 (137–128) representing β as 48 in WDTT. In this study, strain analysis plays a crucial role in fracture network, and the conditions of thermal and pressure must be considered as Field A is located an active strike slip system.
