Integrated multidisciplinary techniques can be applied at wellsite, with considerable potential for cutting drilling costs. In an innovative approach which unlocks the full potential of rocks for real-time operations, a recent case study is referenced which can serve as a template for local Southeast Asian workflows. The basis for this is evaluating an integrated stratigraphic and provenance model on legacy data as part of the pre-drill process. This can be applied for example for improving play fairway mapping in tectonically complex areas such as the Miocene offshore Sarawak, Sabah, and Brunei, where proprietary, unpublished projects have been completed using these techniques. Following the pre-drill pilot study the derived model can be applied in real time, at the wellsite for interpreting key stratigraphy at sub-seismic resolution and to determine the best well-path, casing points, where to place casing shoe, and TD picks through rapid turnaround times of chemostratigraphy and biostratigraphy/palynofacies data.
