Summary

The recent success in near field exploration campaign undertaken by Hibiscus Malaysia has proven that a discovery can be put on production almost immediately resulting early monetization. Despite many challenges (which include governance process, long lead items procurement, ERD well planning, etc) faced by the operator from adopting the exploration play concept, identifying the right prospects, to planning for immediate production in the event of a discovery, the integrated team of Hibiscus Malaysia managed to collaborate across different disciplines and among the stakeholders in obtaining early gate approvals from both regulators and JV partners, which was one of the key factors leading to the success in shortening the cycle time to achieve the first gas and oil production.
