Abstract

Summary

Marine seismic acquisition primarily uses airgun arrays, producing broadband signals from 1.5 Hz to over 100 Hz. However, their limited energy below 3 to 5 Hz hinders applications like full-waveform inversion (FWI), which require high-fidelity ultralow-frequency signals. Alternative technologies, such as low-frequency sources and marine vibrators, improve signal-to-noise ratios (SNR) to approximately 1.2 Hz. This study examines hybrid survey designs integrating these advanced sources with traditional airguns using simultaneous shooting and deblending. By enabling a single vessel to deploy multiple source types, the approach enhances flexibility, efficiency, and data quality. Tests in the Gulf of Mexico validate its effectiveness.
