Abstract

Summary

OBN survey is well known to produce high quality seismic image but at a high cost compared to classic streamer acquisition.

In the same way as 2024 (Pagliccia et al. 85th EAGE conference), we explore the impact of data decimation for an OBN shot in the North Sea in a shallow water context. Whereas the deep offshiore case presented in 2024 has shown that both shots and receivers decimation are not too detrimental to the final image, this paper illustrates that this shaalow water use case is much more sensitive to receivers decimation than shots as far as 3D elastic inversion is concerned.

After discussing the effect of these decimations on the datasets, we continue to promote this systematic decimation approach in coming OBN processing projects to enrich a knowledge database of optimized acquisition parameters in regards of the geological context.
